Pola Siklus Nama Anak Bali: Representasi Pola Berulang dalam Kajian Matematika
Keywords:

A name becomes a personal identity that is first obtained by an individual at birth. The Balinese child-naming system has a unique characteristic because it is based on the order of birth, namely Wayan/Putu (first child), Made/Kadek (second child), Nyoman/Komang (third child), and Ketut (fourth child), then it repeats if the number of children exceeds four. This pattern reflects cultural orderliness that can be analyzed through a mathematical approach, particularly the concept of repeating patterns and cyclic functions in number theory. The purpose of this study is to describe the Balinese child-naming system based on birth order as part of the cultural identity of Balinese society. This research was conducted using a qualitative method with literature study as the data collection technique. The study reveals that in Balinese Hindu culture, there is a naming system known as tagel pindo (multiples of two) for the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th child, and tagel ping telon (multiples of three) for the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th child, and so on. This tagel system means returning to the initial naming cycle as at the beginning.
