Abstract

The project-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) learning approach is a learning approach that emphasizes collaborative, interactive, and exploratory learning by integrating STEAM concepts. This research aims to find out how the application of the STEAM project-based learning approach in learning mathematics at the elementary school level in the era of the Industrial Revolution 5.0. This research uses a qualitative approach with the research subjects being elementary school students. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers, and documents related to the implementation of learning. The results of the study show that the application of the STEAM approach at SD N 04 doro is divided into 2, namely learning with STEAM integration and STEAM projects. The application of STEAM is not carried out in all materials, only materials that are truly selected which are expected when applied with the STEAM approach will be achieved properly. The STEAM approach helps students understand math concepts better because it involves them in activities that use math concepts in real-life situations. Students also feel more motivated in learning mathematics because they see the relevance between mathematical concepts and everyday life. The obstacles faced by teachers when implementing STEAM-based learning include unplanned lesson hours and some students who do not understand when learning the STEAM approach. However, these obstacles can be overcome by the teacher.
