Etnomatematika: Eksplorasi Geometri pada Bangunan Pura Ulun Danu Bali

Abstract

Indonesia's cultural richness is a legacy from our ancestors that needs protection to preserve local wisdom values. The Balinese Hindu community views the temple as a sacred place where they must maintain its purity. By maintaining the purity of the temple, Parasida Hindu Dharma Indonesia issued Bhisma Pura Sanctity which was determined by the Parisada Hindu Dharma Decree. Ulun Danu Temple has its own characteristics with the location of the temple in the middle of Lake Beratan which adds to the attraction for researchers to research the temple. This research aims to find out the traditional mathematical concepts that exist in the architecture of Ulun Danu Temple in Bali, ethnomathematics exploration at Ulun Danu Temple in Bali reveals mathematical concepts in the architect of the building. Using ethnographic and qualitative approaches, researchers also explored various geometric forms in temple building architecture, ranging from simple patterns to complex spatial arrangements. This analysis uses identifying mathematical concepts, especially in the field of geometry, with taxonomy. The results of the research show that Balinese people naturally apply geometric principles in temple construction, where in ethno-mathematics exploration geometric concepts such as square, rectangle, triangle, trapezoid, triangular pyramid are identified in the building structure of Ulun Danu Temple in Bali. The results of this research provide important insights into the relationship between mathematics and traditional architecture and emphasize the link between mathematical concepts and science in Bali's cultural heritage.
