Abstract

The low ability of students' problem solving occurs because students are less able to understand the material during the learning process, it is necessary to have creativity or learning innovation in the implementation of learning by using models or strategies that can improve students' problem solving abilities. The purpose of this study was to analyze how the implementation of the picture and picture type cooperative learning model on cubes and blocks material and to analyze whether the implementation of the picture and picture learning model was effective on the problem solving abilities of students on cubes and blocks material for class VIII SMP N 4 Pemalang. This study uses a type of experimental research with a quantitative approach. The results showed that: (a) the results of observations of teacher activities in implementing the picture and picture learning model for the first meeting to the third meeting obtained an average value of 89.62%, and student activities obtained an average value of 88.46%, both of them entered in very good criteria. (b) the results of the hypothesis test by calculating the independent sample t-test obtained a significance value of 0.002 <0.05, meaning that Ha is accepted, it is concluded that the problem solving abilities of the experimental class and the control class are not the same and based on the test results the average value of the posttest data, the experimental class got a higher score of 82, compared to the control class which got a score of 70, it was concluded that the picture and picture learning model was effective in improving problem solving abilities.
