Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of the exploration of the goyor woven sarong craft which has a mathematical concept in it. In essence, culture is the result of human work, taste, and creativity, while mathematics is a science that is held in the mind and associated with objects and abstract thoughts. Ethnomathematics exists to bridge the gap between culture and education. Applying mathematical knowledge and culturally nuanced skills (ethnomathematics) will make a huge contribution to learning mathematics. The purpose of this study is to describe what mathematical concepts are contained in the batik motifs in the Goyor Weaving Sarong and how they are used in learning mathematics. This type of research is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The data sources are residents of the village of Goyor Weaving Sarong craftsmen in North Wanarejan Village, Taman District, Pemalang Regency and Goyor Weaving Sarongs. Data collection is done by observation, interviews, and documentation with the main instrument of research is the researcher himself. The data analysis technique was carried out by data reduction, data presentation and data analysis and data exposure. The results of this study in the form of mathematical concepts contained in Goyor Weaving Sarong motif are straight lines, symmetry, points, rhombuses, rectangles, and the concepts of reflection and translation. The mathematical concepts contained in the batik motifs in the Goyor Weaving Sarong can be used to introduce and understand mathematical concepts through local culture.
