Abstract

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This term was first launched by the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States (US) in the 1990s as the theme of the education reform movement to grow the workforce in STEM fields, as well as develop STEM literate citizens, and increase United States global competitiveness in science and technology innovation. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is a new educational approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the learning process focusing on problem-solving in everyday life. Mathematics is one of the areas of education or learning that plays an important role in the development of science and technology. Learning in the 21st Century requires students to have 4 skills, namely critical thinking (critical thinking), creative thinking (creative thinking), communication (communication), and collaboration (collaboration). Which, STEM is an approach that can facilitate students with an effective learning environment to improve mathematical abilities and 21st-century skills. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development of STEM learning on 21st-century skills: 4C (Critical thinking, Creative thinking, Communication, and Collaboration) by providing a description through a literature review approach or literature study in previous research national and international journals that can be downloaded on the Google Scholar database and National Library related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in 21st-century skills, namely 4C skills (Critical thinking, Creative thinking, Communication, and Collaboration). The results show that learning using the STEM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is very effective and has a positive effect on students, namely 21st-century skills.
