Abstract

The family room is the most important social space for children in learning literacy. Families are the first to learn literacy through interaction by carrying out the process of imitation and literacy innovation by using parents' literacy behavior as role models. Introducing literacy from an early age is an important activity to foster language development in early childhood. One of the media with storytelling activities in the family room. This research is interesting because literacy is rarely cultivated in the family room. So researchers will analyze and observe how literacy is introduced from an early age through storytelling activities in the family room. This research method uses descriptive qualitative by taking seven samples of families from Wadas Kelir, Karangklesem, South Purwokerto with seven families who teach, apply and reflect as well as families who succeed in becoming aware of early childhood language skills through various storytelling activities in the family room. Data collection techniques use interviews, observation and documentation with an active participation model. The research results show that introducing literacy from an early age through storytelling activities, namely, (1) Storytelling facilitates language structure; (2) Storytelling Activities for Children; (3) Design family room storytelling activities. Through these three storytelling activities, young children are conditioned to learn literacy, especially reading and writing in an interesting and fun way, so that young children in the family room will enjoy it.
