Abstract

Language is one aspect of development that is very important in human life, especially in communication. Language skills include four skills, namely listening, speaking, reading, then writing. The first language skill mastered by children is listening, which is the basic language skill and is most often used in everyday life. Listening skills involve hearing activities and language sounds, identifying, interpreting, assessing, and understanding the meaning in the material or story heard. Referring to the importance of listening skills for early childhood, teachers at school must use methods or media that are not only interesting but can also improve children's listening skills. This study aims to identify teacher involvement in fostering listening skills in early childhood and the difficulties faced by teachers. The research method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through classroom observation with a total of 15 children and interviews with one of the teachers at Pos Paud Kenanga Kemplong. The results showed that teacher involvement in fostering early childhood listening skills at Pos Paud Kenanga Kemplong was carried out by giving clear verbal instructions to children and applying various fun learning methods, namely storytelling or reading storybooks, singing children's songs, role playing, and watching educational videos. The difficulties faced by teachers are limited resources, limited time, and lack of support from parents.
