Abstract
We can instill character in various environments, such as family, school and community. Families have an important role in shaping children's character from an early age, while schools can provide formal teaching and a supportive environment in character formation. Society also plays a role in creating an environment that supports positive character development. In instilling character values based on local cultural wisdom, families can apply familiarization or teaching regarding local languages, folklore, customs, traditional arts, or knowledge about the surrounding natural environment. This helps children develop a deeper understanding of their own culture, increase their sense of pride, and maintain their cultural identity. The aim of this research is to determine and examine the role of the family in instilling character values based on local cultural wisdom in early childhood. This research method is a type of descriptive qualitative research with data collection in the form of interviews, observations and documentation carried out in Pedurungan Village, Taman District, Pemalang Regency. The data analysis used is a qualitative data analysis technique using a deductive method, and data triangulation, an examination technique using sources, methods and theories. The research results show that the role of the family in instilling character values with cultural traditions as a form of local wisdom plays a very important role for children because the family is the environment closest to the child. The character values that must be developed are: honest, responsible, intelligent, healthy, caring, creative and mutual cooperation, as well as learning the local wisdom character values that exist in the Indonesian nation through habituation.
