Abstract

The aim of this Classroom Action Research is to analyze how the application of the drill method can improve students' ability to memorize short letters. The research subjects were 22 class VI students at SDN Karangtengah 04, Sampang District, odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. This Classroom Action Research consists of two cycles, namely cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation and reflection stages. Data collection techniques use training and direct observation. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the use of the drill method in learning Islamic Religious Education can improve students' memorization abilities in learning to memorize students' short letters. Before the action was implemented there were 15 students or 32% of the 22 students who had not completed their studies. In cycle I, 15 students or 70% of 22 students were able to practice memorizing short letters and this increased to 20 students or 91% of 22 students in cycle II. Apart from learning outcomes, the use of the drill method can also increase student learning activities. From the existing data, student learning activities before action was taken were in the sufficient category. However, after taking action, students' learning activities increased to a good rating. This means, this method makes a positive contribution in improving learning activities and student learning outcomes. So the results of this research show that the drill method is useful for improving learning activities and student learning outcomes in learning to memorize short letters for class VI students at SDN Karangtengah 04 odd semester 2021/2022 academic year.
