Abstrak

The rapid development of digital technology has brought significant changes in the lives of elementary school-aged children, especially in terms of social and emotional aspects. This article delves into the impact of digital literacy and understanding technology ethics on children’s social-emotional development. Using a qualitative approach and literature study, this research finds that good digital literacy enhances children’s ability to communicate, understand others’ feelings (empathy), and manage and control emotions more effectively. In addition, understanding technology ethics helps children to behave wisely, politely, and responsibly in the digital environment, which is full of challenges and temptations. Children equipped with digital ethics tend to be more cautious about negative content and are less likely to engage in inappropriate online behavior. However, without adequate supervision and guidance from adults, the use of technology can have negative impacts, such as social isolation, difficulties in emotional regulation, and the risk of becoming victims or perpetrators of cyberbullying. Therefore, strong collaboration between schools, parents, and communities is needed to instill ethical values and digital literacy from an early age to support the optimal and balanced social-emotional development of children.
