Abstract

The background of this research is about the factors causing the low interest in students’s learning, especially in learning mathematics. The purpose of this study (1) to determine the factors causing the low interest in student learning (2) to determine the teacher’s role in increasing student interest in learning mathematics. The method used in this research is literature review research. The data source used is the data source by reviewing articles in journals to support this research.  The results of the study show that (1) the cause of the low interest in learning in students is caused by 2 factors, namely there are internal factors including intelligence, health, motivation to learn and external factors including the family, school, and community environment. (2) the teacher’s role in increasing student interest in learning is by providing motivation, approach, provide varied learning methods so that the mathematics learning process becomes fun and not boring which makes students understand the material provided well so that the learning outcomes are satisfactory and this problem can be solved.
