PARTICIPATORY EDUCATION AS AN EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN POLITICAL LITERACY AND DEMOCRACY IN THE DISRUPTIVE ERA

Education is an important aspect in various contexts, in the context of general elections, democracy, governance, and politics, literacy maturity is essential to prevent deviant behavior and violations, both administratively and technically. Participatory education is an initiative deemed necessary to enrich adolescents and young people with adequate knowledge about democracy and general elections in technical and administrative matters, with the hope of increasing their involvement in participatory oversight, which can improve the quality of the general election process. This study aims to position participatory education as a strategic step by analyzing the potential impacts that can be provided through sustainable implementation. The method used in this study is a qualitative method, using factual experiences of the implementation of participatory education as a reflection in developing arguments, and relevant references to support the findings in this study. The results of this study indicate that participants in participatory education stated that they had a clearer understanding and picture of the election process after receiving education from the General Elections Supervisory Agency. In addition, they have also begun to apply the values and lessons learned in activities involving the decision-making process, such as the election of the OSIS chairman, and other activities. This effort is also supported by other activities, such as debate competitions, which reflect freedom of expression, in line with the democratic system implemented by the country. Participatory education provides robust knowledge and provides the necessary tools to contribute to the general election process in the next period.
