Artificial Intelligence In Pesantren Education: Technology Innovation, Islamic Scholarly Authority, And Social Transformation

Abstrak

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought significant changes to various sectors, including Islamic education. Pesantren, as an Islamic educational institution with strong traditions of classical texts, scholarly transmission, and teacher-student relationships, faces new challenges in responding to digital technological developments. AI offers opportunities to support religious learning through broader access to knowledge resources, innovative learning media, and help with understanding Islamic studies. However, implementing it also raises critical issues about knowledge validity, ethical use, and the authority of Islamic scholars in the learning process. This article aims to examine the role of Artificial Intelligence in pesantren education from the perspectives of technological innovation, Islamic epistemology, scholarly authority, and social transformation. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method by analyzing relevant academic sources on AI, Islamic education, pesantren traditions, and technology ethics. The findings indicate that AI can strengthen pesantren education when positioned as a learning support tool rather than a replacement for teachers and scholars. The integration of AI requires ethical considerations, verification of religious information, and preservation of Islamic scholarly traditions. This study concludes that pesantren can adopt AI as part of digital transformation while maintaining its educational identity, values, and intellectual heritage.
