The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Islamic Religious Education Learning

Abstrak

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created new opportunities for innovation in education, including Islamic Religious Education (PAI). AI can provide various forms of support in the learning process, such as assisting teachers in preparing instructional materials, providing learning resources, and encouraging students to engage in more independent and interactive learning. However, the increasing use of AI also requires attention to accuracy, responsible use, and the position of teachers in the learning process. This study aims to examine the role of Artificial Intelligence in Islamic Religious Education learning, particularly its contribution to supporting teachers and students in the learning process. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving PAI teachers and students. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was established through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that Artificial Intelligence plays a supporting role in PAI learning by helping teachers develop learning materials, obtain relevant information, design learning activities, and provide varied learning resources. For students, AI facilitates access to information, supports independent learning, and helps them explore learning materials. Nevertheless, AI use requires teacher guidance because AI- generated information may contain inaccuracies and excessive dependence on technology may reduce students’ critical engagement. The study concludes that AI can support PAI learning when its use is guided by teachers, critically evaluated, and aligned with educational and Islamic values.
