The Puputan with Sawuran tradition in Kayugeritan village, Karanganyar district, Pekalongan regency is a local cultural heritage that continues to be preserved between generations and contains religious, social, and cultural values. This study aims to reveal the symbolic meaning and function of this tradition, as well as to analyze its relationship with Islamic education in rural communities. Using a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, data was collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that the Puputan with Sawuran tradition contains Islamic values such as gratitude (syukr), togetherness (ukhuwah), mutual cooperation, and manners in society. In addition to functioning as a traditional ritual, this tradition also serves as a means of informal education, a place where Islamic values are transmitted culturally through the examples set by parents, religious leaders, and village officials. This tradition has been proven to play a role in shaping religious character, strengthening social cohesion, and supporting the contextual learning of Islamic values in society. Thus, local traditions can serve as a means of sustainable culture-based Islamic education.
