Analysis of Islamic Religious Education Policies in Strengthening Religious Moderation in Public Schools

ABSTRACTThis study aims to analyze Islamic Religious Education (PAI) policies in strengthening religious moderation in public schools. PAI plays a strategic role in shaping the character of students who are religious, tolerant, and patriotic. However, educational practices often face challenges in the form of religious exclusivism and a lack of understanding of moderation in the school environment. This article uses a qualitative descriptive approach with an analysis of national education policies, specifically those of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The analysis shows that the implementation of PAI policies has been directed at strengthening religious moderation through inclusive curricula, teacher training, and religious activities. However, there remains a gap between normative policies and practices in the field. Therefore, synergy is needed between the government, teachers, and the community to realize moderate and tolerant religious education.
