Optimization of the School Library Function through the Reading Corner Garden in Improving the Literacy Culture of Students at MI Salafiyah Duwet, Pekalongan City

Abstract

The management of the reading corner garden at MI Salafiyah Duwet, Pekalongan City, is quite effective in increasing students' literacy culture. This is evidenced by the activities of students every day during recess, they visit and read books in the reading corner garden. Therefore, there is a need for research in managing this reading corner garden in order to improve the literacy culture of MI Salafiyah Duwet students in Pekalongan City. With this in mind, the authors are interested in conducting research on Optimizing the Functions of the School Library Through Reading Corner Parks in Improving Student Literacy Culture at MI Salafiyah Duwet, Pekalongan City. This research is a type of field research, while the approach in this study uses qualitative research. The data collection methods used are: observation method, interview method, documentation method, and data analysis method. In analyzing the data researchers used descriptive analysis method.        The results showed that optimizing the function of the school library through a reading corner garden in improving the literacy culture of students at MI Salafiyah Duwet Pekalongan City has been running quite effectively, this is evidenced by students feeling happy and interested in books, so they are closer to books and are used to reading books. Meanwhile, the obstacles experienced by MI Salafiyah Duwet, namely: the books provided were incomplete and not students' favorites, managers were not always on site, students felt disturbed, lack of teacher involvement. From these obstacles, the solution taken by MI Salafiyah Duwet is: to exchange books with certain parties, make a picket schedule by involving teachers and help them in managing the reading corner garden.
