Abstract

Indonesia, as a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-ethnic nation, is one of the causes of frequent misunderstandings, brawls, and even clashes and horizontal conflicts within the community. This is one reason why multicultural education is crucial as part of the school curriculum. Schools are crucial environments for students, and many aspects of the school environment influence their behavior and lives, especially as students are relatively adolescents. Multicultural education is positioned as character development for students, equipping them to socialize, communicate, and interact effectively in all aspects of life in the era of globalization. The implementation of multicultural education is urgently needed as part of character education, but it certainly faces several challenges. A lack of understanding of multicultural education, negative stigma and prejudice, an unintegrated curriculum, and limited resources are some of the challenges facing multicultural education. Several efforts can be made to address these challenges, including outreach and education, developing an inclusive approach to the curriculum, improving teacher competency, and using technology positively. With these efforts, multicultural education can truly be implemented in schools.
